ECW Commander 1 - Prince Rupert

Now then,

A quick post this morning, here is my first ECW commander, Prince Rupert of the Rhine.

Here he is along with his trusty dog, Boye. The flag I used was the standard for Prince Ruperts Lifeguard, and seems to work nicely.

I have now totally ran out of ECW miniatures to paint so ill be cracking on with some WW2 next month I think!

Here is the full army so far - LINK

Charles Gerrards Regiment of Foote

Now then,

Today I have finished off another foot Regiment for my ECW project. This time its a fairly famous regiment, Charles Gerrards Regiment. It seems to be quite popular with wargamers, probably because of the interesting quartered flags.

Anyway, here it is..

I am now about half way through my little foray into this period, I have a couple more Foot Regiments to paint, and 3 Cavalry Regiments.

Im going to add a unit of dragoons and some commanders too. After that I think ill have a break from them before doing another force, this time for the forces of Parliament.

Here is a quick snap I took of the army so far, sat on my paint box. You can see Prince Rupert there, undercoated and ready to be painted up.

Im nearly out of figures now so ill have to wait until next week at Vapnartak in York to get some more!

All the units so far can be seen here - ECW PAGE

Earl Rivers's Regiment of Foote

Now then,

Here is the latest Regiment for my ECW army.

I needed to do a red coated regiment, so Earl Rivers Regiment it is. I quite like it, with the black standards.

Im pretty sure ive got the dip right now, and painting these figures is becoming easier (and quicker).

The Prince of wales Regiment of Horse

Now then,

I sat up last night watching the tabletop commanders paint and chat session on youtube, and I managed to get another unit for my Royalists painted.

The Prince of wales's Regiment of Horse. A red coated unit, surprisingly easy to paint, as I think I have finally got the magic wash about right.

Anyway heres some pics.

Again this unit is made from peter pig miniatures, and is a mix of their cavalry packs.

As I have mentioned previously, the units in my army are a bit too "uniformed" but it speeds up painting no end!

The flag is from wargames designs, very nice flags indeed and pretty cheap too!

So there we have it, another unit done!

All my units so far can be seen here - ECW page

For those of you curious about the tabletop commanders, here is a link to the blog - LINK

While I was watching, I also painted up these little chaps. They are 10mm Romans and Britons, to use as heroes in To the Strongest.

4 of each and individually based, they are like markers, or chits I suppose but look better than a cardboard counter.

Thanks to Stuart for the figs.

The Queens Regiment of Horse

Now then,

I unexpectedly received a parcel yesterday from Peter Pig, with a load of reinforcements! I immediately cracked on and have painted up my first Horse unit. The queens regiment.

I have used a mix of different figures, hats, helmets pistols and swords. But mostly sword armed as these will be a unit of "gallopers".

Im aware that all my units are probably a bit too uniformed, but it speeds up the painting process, and I have a large lead mountain to get through, adding to it all the time doesn't help!!

All my ECW stuff can be seen here on my ECW page - LINK

ECW Cannon

Now then,

I have just finished off this little bout of painting, so here is an ECW medium cannon. Thats the last ECW I have for now, so I await reinforcements before any more progress can be made.

I have painted the crew in a mixture of colours, as I dont think there would have been any uniformity among the Gun crews.

This is a medium gun from Peter pig, I will be getting a few light guns next I think.

I have used my Magic Wash again on these miniatures, Im still thinking it needs to be a bit darker, but im getting there with it I think.

Heres a link to my ECW page, with all the units in one place - LINK

I thought id put  a picture of my little "helper" up as well, complete with bits of static grass up nostril if you look closely.

Anyway,

Ashleys Regiment of Foote

Now then,

Here is my latest ECW unit, Ashleys Regiment of Foote, a green coated regiment. I couldn't actually find much information about this unit, but I wanted a Green clad Regiment and Wargames designs make the flag so here we are!

I have tried a different wash on this unit, its a homemade "magic wash". Klear floor polish with black ink, it has worked OK I think, although I am still refining it. I will be adding a bit more black ink for the next unit.

I got the "recipe" for it over at fat wallys website, here - LINK

Id recommend having a good dig about on his site as he has some stunning peter pig 15mm ECW armies, among others.

The regiment is braced to receive cavalry, and I have put the command group at the back, I'm quite happy with how this unit has come out.

Here are both regiments together, I quite like em!

Next I have a cannon to paint up then Ill need to order some more, or ill wait till York on the 7th Feb and get some there. Ill need to get some cavalry im thinking....

Here is a link to my new ECW page where everything can be seen together! - ECW Page

Sir John Talbots Regiment of Foote

Now then,

I have started my English Civil War project with a yellow coated Royalist Foot Regiment. I actually painted these last year, but I am not very happy with how they have come out. I tried the Vallejo wash on them and it doesnt look great. Oh well I will experiment further...

Here they are-

The flags are from wargames designs, and are very good. Great service too.

All the models are peter pig 15mm, great little sculpts with loads of character, its a pity about the slightly bodged paint job though.

The Regiment is split into 3 bases, 1 of pike with 12 figures, and 2 of shot, each with 8 figures.

So there we have it, first unit done. The next unit will be Ashleys Regiment of Foote, a green coated regiment. Hopefully they will look a bit neater than these.

Cheers for looking!
Steve

OldHammer Undead Necromancer!

Now then,

Here is a bit of a blast from the past!

I painted this model up in about 1993-4 so ive had him a long time, but hes up for sale as he hasnt been out of his box for well over a decade and a half I think. Time for a new home.

Hes up for sale on ebay, check my for sale page if interested. or click on the link below.

Google "improvements"....

Morning all,

Google have just announced this....

"In 2011, we announced the retirement of Google Friend Connect for all non-Blogger sites. We made an exception for Blogger to give readers an easy way to follow blogs using a variety of accounts. Yet over time, we’ve seen that most people sign into Friend Connect with a Google Account. So, in an effort to streamline, in the next few weeks we’ll be making some changes that will eventually require readers to have a Google Account to sign into Friend Connect and follow blogs.

As part of this plan, starting the week of January 11, we’ll remove the ability for people with Twitter, Yahoo, Orkut or other OpenId providers to sign in to Google Friend Connect and follow blogs. At the same time, we’ll remove non-Google Account profiles so you may see a decrease in your blog follower count.

We encourage you to tell affected readers (perhaps via a blog post), that if they use a non-Google Account to follow your blog, they need to sign up for a Google Account, and re-follow your blog. With a Google Account, they’ll get blogs added to their Reading List, making it easier for them to see the latest posts and activity of the blogs they follow.

We know how important followers are to all bloggers, but we believe this change will improve the experience for both you and your readers.

Im certainly no computer expert, but the net result of all these so called improvements is that if you dont have a google account, then you will no longer be able to follow blogs, which to me just sounds a bit silly, I dont get where the "improvement" is....

Plans for 2016

Now then,

Im a bit late this year in posting my yearly round up and plans for the coming year...... But here we go anyway.

2015

2015 has been a bad year for me. Real life stuff has really been a bummer, but is starting to improve, so hopefully the gaming and painting and of course blogging will be getting some more attention.

So what have I achieved this year?

Well, I moved back to the UK from Cyprus after 4 years out there in quite a rush due to family problems, I then spent the best part of 6 months on compassionate leave as things sorted themselves out.
If that wasn't enough, my house that had been rented out had been trashed by my tenant before I evicted him, so it took a lot of time and effort (and Money) to get it into a habitable state again, but thankfully my older brother (a Builder) pretty much sorted it out for me, with me doing the labouring for him.

I havent painted much at all this year, a few bits and bobs when ive had the time and the motivation. Im planning on making up for this in 2016.

The best part of 2015 has been that I have made some gaming mates in the area, and I get a game now at least once a week, and a big game every month or so on a Sunday. Ive had more games this last 6 months than probably the last 10 years combined, so things are looking up.

2016

Plans for this year!

Im moving into my own house! finally after 20 years living in military accommodation I have sold my old house and bought a much nicer one, complete with gaming room for me!

WW2

Im planning on a big overhaul of my quite extensive Eastern front collection in 15mm. Ive re-discovered Rapid Fire, and have enough figures for a Soviet rifle division and a waffen SS Regiment with attached Tank and artillery support etc.

EPIC

I haven't done much with this last year, and intend to get my Tau forces finished off, as well as some more Marine stragglers that I found in a box.

ENGLISH CIVIL WAR 15MM (ROYALIST)

A new project, I started by buying a few units worth of troops from Peter pig last year, but havent done much with them yet, I am waiting for a decent set of rules to appear.... Impetus Baroque?

BLUCHER 6MM

I bought the Blucher rulebook as soon as it was released last year, and it looks like a very good game. I plan to rebase, reorganise and generally sort out my 4 year old unfinished and never used Napoleonic collection and hopefully finally get them on a gaming table!

REPUBLICAN ROMAN ARMY 15MM

I have had a long standing interest in all things Ancient and especially Roman, so a Republican Roman army it is!  Im going to use westwinds forged in battle 15mm figs for this and base them up for Impetus, although ill be using them for Simon Millers To the Strongest as well.

WARS OF THE ROSES 6MM (REBASE)

My 6mm Wars of the Roses collection is getting expanded and re-organised, having done a lot of reading on the subject over the last few years im not completely happy that my armies reflect the way the armies were organised and fought. more later!

WARS OF THE ROSES 28mm LION RAMPANT

Keeping the late medieval theme, im also going to build a force for Lion Rampant, using the excellent Perry plastics, ive had a few games of this already using my vikings, and its great fun.

GRUNTZ 15MM

I have bought the Gruntz rulebook, and im quite looking forward to painting up a couple of small skirmish forces in 15mm, should be a welcome distraction from painting all the historical stuff ive got planned.

So all in all, things are looking up, ill have my own study/gaming room and all my figures and books in one place for the first time ever. I think that ill end up painting alot more, so hopefully there will be plenty to update the blog with in 2016.

Cheers,
Steve
