ECW Game!

Now then,

Another good game of Impetus Baroque with the lads over in Redmire today. No battle report but heres a few pics.

Royalists struggle to keep order crossing the river.

Parliamentarians move forward, covered by a cannon.

Johns Scottish contingent. Sitting pretty in the fields, a tough nut to crack for my Royalist foot!

A firefight ensues along the Scots defenses, and eventually I manage to flank them with my Dragoons!

Stuarts Parliamentarian foot.

 A good game, The Royalists were fought to a standstill by the combined Parliamentarian and Scottish forces. We called it a draw. Unfortunately I didn't get any pics of the big cavalry scrap in the middle, sorry Pete!

End of May Update

Now then,

May has been a productive month for me, I have managed to get alot of painting done, and also managed to get 3! games in as well.

So what did I get painted?

15mm ECW

Prince Ruperts regiment of Horse

Thomas Astons Dragoons

John Innes Dragoons

15mm Sci/Fi

These are all Khurasan Miniatures, painted up for Gruntz 15mm.

There is a full platoon there and a couple of battle suits in support.

6mm Napoleonic

 I painted up 2 new Regiments of French Ligne (line) infantry, the 105th Regiment, and the 17th regiment.

Below can be seen the core of my first French Corps. Next im going to get my Legre (light) infantry Regiment done.

The 17th has an attached artillery battery. I like to model the gun and crew onto the base, with 6mm its perfectly do-able!

And finally...

A 15/18mm AB Napoleonic (Austrian Grenadier) test figure!

Really nice figure to paint but struggling with the white at this scale..

Anyway that's me for this month!

Next month ill do another brigade of 6mm French then maybe some epic, just for a change!

2 games in 2 Days!

Now then,

I have been lucky enough to have 2 games this weekend!Firstly on Saturday James popped down for a game of Battlegroup Kursk. It was only a small game, based mostly on the introductory scenario in the Kursk book. It went really well and I like the Battlegroup rules alot.

The second game was with Pete, Stuart and myself having our first game of Impetus Baroque, using our newly painted English Civil war Armies.

It was another cracking game, and it looked ace on Petes terrain.

Both games were really good fun and ill be playing them both again in the near future!

Colonel John Innes's Regiment of Dragoons.

Now then,

Here is the final regiment done for my ECW project. Again, information is scarce so I have made the colours up, Colonel Innes's Dragoons are green coated, with a generic green flag. it works for me, as most of my troops are either red or blue coats so a bit of green was a welcome change.

As with the other dragoon unit I have used a mix of mounted and dismounted troops.


In a display of perfect military planning, just as I was finishing the bases on my last unit, the Baroque rulebook arrived!

Great stuff.

Here is a quick, slightly crappy photo of the full army, painted in record time for me, I think I started in early January and am now finished. The full army in more detail can be seen  - HERE

 Whats next?

6mm Napoleonic French for a nice change I think, I have loads to get through so they will keep me busy and out of trouble for a good while i should think.

Sir Thomas Astons Dragoons

Now then,

Heres the latest unit, a regiment of dragoons. I have had real difficulty trying to tie down a particular unit, and coat colours etc, so I gave up and just gave this unit yellow coats.

The flag is a generic one I found on the net, resized and printed off. I have decided that these will serve as Sir Thomas Astons Dragoon regiment.

There we go, another regiment done, and only one more left to do then the army is finished!

Now then,

Here is my latest Unit for my Civil War project, Prince Ruperts Regiment of Horse. Probably the most well known Royalist Cavalry Regiment of the ECW.

The Kings Lifeguard of horse.

Now then,

I have been busy this month trying to get as much of my English civil war miniatures finished as I can, my latest unit completed is the Kings Lifeguard of horse. I also recently painted up the King himself.

The Kings Lifeguard.

King Charles I, with a small command group and the Royal banner.

Here is everything I have painted this month, 2 cavalry regiments, 1 light gun, 1 foot regiment and a command base, not bad going I think.

Below is the army so far, its come together quite quickly, and there is only 1 cavalry regiment left to do and 1 regiment of dragoons. I will also do another command base I think then call it done!

Update on the April Painting challenge

Now then,

So I managed to get a cavalry regiment and a foot regiment done already this month,as well as a light gun. Im going to try and get another cavalry unit done and a command base, I think ill do King Charles I, with a small command group.

Its not too much really so I should get them done,

Lord Byrons regiment of Foote

Now then,

Here,s the latest Unit for my ECW project, Lord Byrons Regiment of Foote. I couldn't find any uniform info or coat colours so decided I wanted a white coated Regiment so here we are!

This is the last foot unit for a while, so ill be cracking on with some more cavalry next before moving onto the dragoon regiment.

Prince Maurice's Regiment of Horse, April Challenge update!

Now then,

Here the first unit done from my MMM April challenge, Its Prince Maurice's Regiment of Horse, a Royalist Cavalry regiment from the English Civil War.

These have all been painted in the last few days, whilst on the regular paint and chat sessions on google hangouts.

Whilst I was doing the cavalry I painted up a light gun as well.

 Here is the light gun, generic clothing for the crew, it could easily serve for Parliament as well.

All these troops will form part of my ECW Royalist army for Impetus Baroque.

Next up will be Lord Byrons regiment of foot, a white coated regiment. (Actually I couldnt find any references to the coat colours of this unit so just decided they would be white..!)

The plan for April.

Now then,

I have been very quiet around here recently, what with sorting my house out and moving in etc, but now im here I think its time to start getting some proper painting done (figures not walls......)

James over on the the mad tin hatter blog has started a painting challenge for April, so I thought id jump in, and try and motivate myself. click on the link below to find out what its all about -

Lord Byrons Regiment of Foot - 28 figs
Prince Maurices Regiment of Horse - 9 figs
1 light gun and 3 crew.

All these are 15mm figs from peter pig.

Ill see how I get on!

ECW Commander 1 - Prince Rupert

Now then,

A quick post this morning, here is my first ECW commander, Prince Rupert of the Rhine.

Here he is along with his trusty dog, Boye. The flag I used was the standard for Prince Ruperts Lifeguard, and seems to work nicely.

I have now totally ran out of ECW miniatures to paint so ill be cracking on with some WW2 next month I think!

Charles Gerrards Regiment of Foote

Now then,

Today I have finished off another foot Regiment for my ECW project. This time its a fairly famous regiment, Charles Gerrards Regiment. It seems to be quite popular with wargamers, probably because of the interesting quartered flags.

Anyway, here it is..

I am now about half way through my little foray into this period, I have a couple more Foot Regiments to paint, and 3 Cavalry Regiments.

Im going to add a unit of dragoons and some commanders too. After that I think ill have a break from them before doing another force, this time for the forces of Parliament.

Here is a quick snap I took of the army so far, sat on my paint box. You can see Prince Rupert there, undercoated and ready to be painted up.

Im nearly out of figures now so ill have to wait until next week at Vapnartak in York to get some more!
